Kipsu is excited to welcome Ryan Bloom to our team as a Senior Software Engineer. Prior to Kipsu, Ryan was building ecommerce system integrations at SPS Commerce. outside of work, you'll find Ryan home-brewing, running, and playing Pokemon Go.

What drew you to Kipsu in contrast to other companies?

During the interview process, I was never limited to talking with just engineers—I met with a variety of people from all over the company. The interviews felt much more like I was being considered to be a team member of Kipsu itself rather than simply an engineer.

What were some things you noticed about the Kipsu team during your first week?

It was refreshing for me to see how close-knit the Kipsu team is. There's a lot of transparency about every facet of the company. Everyone is on first name terms, even the executive team. There's even a special Slack bot that pairs people for introductions.

What challenges are you looking forward to tackling in your work at Kipsu?

I'm excited to dig into the challenges of growing the Kipsu platform, working in a new domain, and taking greater ownership of projects.

What is your favorite Kipsu core value?

"Play the long game," it's always tempting to chase the short term goals or "quick fixes" for problems in the code, only to find yourself having to go back and do twice as much work. There's a nice mix here between moving fast, but also being thoughtful.

If you could meet any person for a chat over a shared dinner, who would you pick and why?

I'd love to have a chat with Margaret Hamilton—she pushed to get software development recognized as an engineering discipline, and her Apollo landing work set the bar for reliable software design.
